Ice hockey at the 1984 Winter Olympics

The 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia, featured the 15th men's ice hockey Olympic championship. The Soviet Union claimed their sixth gold medal. Most games took place at the Olympic Hall Zetra, with additional matches held at the Skenderija Olympic Hall. During this era, the IIHF did not hold a world championship in Olympic years; nations not competing in Sarajevo were invited to the Thayer Tutt Trophy. The host Yugoslavs and top Pool B teams were added, and a playoff between the fourth-place Pool B team and the Pool C champion determined the final Olympic spot, which Norway won. The final round saw the top two from each group play the other group’s top two once, with preliminary results (USSR 10–1 over Sweden, Czechoslovakia 4–0 over Canada) carried over. The third- and fourth-place teams in each group played classification games for fifth and seventh place. The oldest team was Italy (average age 27 years, 8 months), while Canada was the youngest (21 years, 6 months).
